چکیده

Energy efficiency has become one of the most important challenges in designing future computing systems. Workload reshaping and prediction have a significant impact on the energy conservation of computer components. In this paper, by using three HTTP traffic traces, we perform various evaluations to explore the possible reasons and indications which impact the workload reshaping. The experimental results indicate that the principles of reshaping workload to improve prediction quality are constructing or improving the self-similarity of the reshaped workloads.

HeteroDrive: Reshaping the Storage Access Pattern of OLTP Workload Using SSD

The on-line transaction processing (OLTP) workload is known to produce intense random accesses with high ratio of write. Coping with the random access pattern has been a challenging issue to the underlying storage system. Although SSDs are considered as a breakthrough in storage systems, their random write performance still falls far behind the sequential performance. In this paper, we propose ...

On the Maximum Workload of a Queue Fed by Fractional Brownian Motion

Consider a queue with a stochastic fluid input process modeled as fractional Brownian motion (fBM). When the queue is stable, we prove that the maximum of the workload process observed over an interval of length t grows like γ!log t"1/!2−2H", where H > 1/2 is the self-similarity index (also known as the Hurst parameter) that characterizes the fBM and can be explicitly computed. Consequently, we...

A Long-Range Dependent Workload Model for Packet Data Traffic

We consider a probabilistic model for workload input into a telecommunication system. It captures the dynamics of packet generation in data traffic as well as accounting for long-range dependence and self-similarity exhibited by real traces. The workload is found by aggregating the number of packets, or their sizes, generated by the arriving sessions. The arrival time, duration, and packet-gene...
